The first job is to merge the images, and there are handy tools for automatic alignment and defining parts of images that should be included or rejected – useful for avoiding ghosting artefacts on moving subjects. Corel AfterShot HDR then launches as a separate application. It’s accessed by selecting multiple images and choosing an option from the right-click menu which is hardly the most obvious method. There’s an HDR module that’s new to AfterShot Pro, but it’s exactly the same one that has been available in Corel PaintShop Pro since 2011. The table below lists many supported cameras, but for a list. Readable file formats RAW files from a wide array of digital cameras are supported as well as JPEG and TIFF files. RAW files from a wide array of digital cameras are supported as well as JPEG and TIFF files. We also experienced a few crashes and numerous periods of inactivity – lasting around 10 to 20 seconds – during normal use. Corel AfterShot Pro Supported file formats You can read (open and view) or write (save and export) to a wide range of file formats. Wait for the spinning hoop, as the adjustments are applied, and then you’ll see a tiny Pen icon bottom left of the thumbnail and. Now, select the images (press and hold Ctrl to select multiple images), and then Right-click again and choose Apply Editing. Importing our library of 56,000 photos took about five hours, and crashed each time it encountered a “corrupt or unreadable file”. Select the original RAW file, then Right-click and from the pane select Capture Editing. Other aspects of performance weren’t so impressive, though. We also appreciated how easy it is to drag photos from the library directly onto a Batch Output template to initiate export. We didn’t have the two versions side by side to verify this, but we were able to compare it with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.Įxports of 60 raw files to JPEG – complete with colour correction, noise reduction, sharpening and lens distortion correction – took two and a half minutes in AfterShot Pro 2, compared to four minutes in Lightroom 5. There’s a move to 64-bit code, which Corel claims makes raw processing 30% faster. On paper, AfterShot Pro 2 appears to stick to the lean, streamlined design brief. If Corel’s experience of consumer-orientated software could round out the features without compromising the existing core functions, it could have a Lightroom-killer on its hands.Ĭorel AfterShot Pro 2 review: new features After Shot is supposed to be a serious program specialized for raw files development, and thinking of it as that that is what I would have expected (still expect) from the developers of such a program. That was pretty much it for features – there was no video support, mapping facilities or online hosting – but it was a strong foundation for Corel’s new acquisition. It has many of the same features, some even more robust than that of Adobe’s, and has a proprietary raw algorithm unique to Corel products. I would have liked Corel to (and I still hope they might) include lens distortion correction for the RX100 (which is a quite nice and rather expensive camera for being a compact, not just any other). Earlier today, Corel announced AfterShot Pro 3, a program that looks like a legitimate threat to Adobe Lightroom’s dominance. I prefer to work with a lens calibration made by professionals rather than working and making my one. I bought AfterShot because I tried it and liked it, not because I really needed it though I have been enjoying using it (till now and certainly not to develop my raw files form my recently bought RX100). They also have already included lens correction for the RX100 in their latest update. By the time being, and editing my tiff files with either Corel PaintShop (very nice program as other Corel programs are) or Serif Photo Plus.īut even better, I can (as I normally do) develop my raw files with DxO Optics Pro. I can always develop with AfterShot, convert to tiff, then make the lens correction with PTLens and then load the tiff file to any other photo editing program. I have PTLens which update already included lens correction for the RX100. I am tired of having to devote time to computer programs, I want them to work for me, not the other way around. I am in a stage of my life where I want computer programs to make my life and work easier. ![]()
